Processions by the youth, meetings and taking of oath marked the 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, observed as the National Youth Day, by various organisations in the city on Friday.
A colourful procession was taken out by boys and girls of various colleges and schools under the auspices of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama from the Jail Road to the Mission premises on the Beach Road. An open top van, decorated with flowers and carrying a statue and huge cut out of Swami Vivekananda, was the special attraction in the rally. The rally concluded in a youth meeting at the Ashrama.
The Skill Development Institute, Arilova, in coordination with the Department of Youth Services and Nehru Yuva Kendra organised the youth day. Senior Civil Judge S. Damodara Rao lit a lamp and paid rich tributes to Swami Vivekananda. He advised the youth to follow the sayings of Swami Vivekananda .

The ‘Best Youth Club’ award of ₹25,000, declared by the District Collector, was presented to Vadanarasapuram Club. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners of various events conducted on the occasion.
A total of 156 children, in the attire of Swami Vivekananda, celebrated the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with the underprivileged children of Thatichetlapalem.
Swami Guneshananda Maharaj of Ramarkrishna Mission, who participated as chief guest, advised the children to do what was right without expecting anything in return. GITAM Vice-Chancellor M.S. Prasada Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor K. Sivarama Krishna, Registrar M. Potharaju and others paid floral tributes.
The birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated at Zilla Parishad High School at Chandrampalem here on Friday.
