One of the prime problems that haunts the residents of Dutch Layout is corrosion. And they say the proximity to the seashore makes them pay a heavy price. “Even simple domestic appliances like fans and refrigerators to electronic gadgets and automobiles need rust preventive coating. We need to constantly keep monitoring the condition of every appliance and shell out a lot of money for its maintenance,” says Divya Kumar, businessman and one of the colony residents.
Another disadvantage of the colony is the dilapidated condition of the greenbelt lining a row of apartments. Despite Prema Seva, a private organisation, taking care of the garbage maintenance, some of the residents continue to dump the waste in the open. As a result, the greenbelt has become a dump yard craving for attention.
Some of the colony residents worry that there is no direct bus facility that connects the area to RTC complex and railway station. They also feel the need for a rythu bazaar as they have to visit either China Waltair or MVP Colony to meet their kitchen requirements.
Badly lit lanes adjacent to Visakha Museum have become a meeting hub for young couples to spend moments of togetherness. Women feel unsafe to pass through these lanes as a few of them have had their chains snatched.
