Prelims of inter-school I-Day elocution competition end

The preliminary rounds of the inter-school Independence Day contest in elocution concluded here on Tuesday.

Over 120 students from some 60 schools in the city participated in the contests conducted by The Hindu in association with Shriram Panorama Hills.

The students enthusiastically came out with varied expression on the topic: ‘Relevance of Gandhian principles in the present context'. At the end of the two-day session, 15 students qualified for the finals to be held on August 13 at VUDA Children's Theatre.

They were: P. Sujan (Vignan Vihar - Gudilova), Zohra Salih (Navy Children School), M. Geeta Sravanti (VT High School), Chandini Mahapatro (KV – Malkapuram), V. Likhitha Sree (Nalanda Talent School), Sneha Banerjee (Timpany-CBSE), Ch. Karshika (Delhi Public School), Soumendu Guin (Kotak Salesian School), K. Sravya (Siva Sivani- KLP), V. Neeraja (Sri Prakash- Seethammdhara), R. Rachana (Vignan Vihar - Gudilova), M. Ankita (Little Angels- MVP- SSC), C. Vijitha (De Paul School- Visakhapatnam Steel Plant), R.P. Kaushik (Sri Prakash - Asilmetta) and Ch. Swathi (Sri Ramakrishna – NAD).

The topic for the finals would be: ‘Six decades of Independence - Is India heading in the right direction?'. The finalists will be given four minutes to talk on the topic. They also will have to report at the venue by 2 p.m. Participation certificates will be given to all the students who participated in the preliminary rounds on the same day at the venue.

Shriram Panorama Hills, a project of Shriram Properties of Shriram Group, will be the first skyscraper of Vizag. It is located on the foothills of the scenic Yendada-Madhurawada region of Visakhapatnam.

The gated residential community is spread over 80 acres and comprises 231 villas, over 2,310 apartments, three clubhouses, shopping mall, with provision for a luxury star hotel, and an international school.

It has about 80 per cent open space, 14 parks, perennial waterfall, 23.4 acres of landscaping, 5 km of jogging track, valley view points, avenue plantation and drip irrigation system.

Jurong Consultants (India) Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Jurong International, Singapore, is the architect, structural designer and quality manager of the project.
