Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APEPDCL) and AP Transco have kept up their promise of restoring power to the all mandal headquarters, towns and cities by Wednesday.

Of the 114 mandal headquarters in the three districts, power has been restored to 110 mandals.

Post cyclone Hudhud, about 13,000 men worked almost round the clock to restore power on a war-footing in the three affected districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram.

In Visakhapatnam city, of the 6.78 lakh connections, power was restored to 6.39 consumers by Thursday morning.

In Srikakulam, of the 7.06 lakh connections, power was restored to 6.96 lakh connections and in Vizianagaram, of the 5.69 connections, power was restored to 4.12 lakh consumers.

Narsipatnam is the only area in Visakhapatnam district where the connectivity is going on at a slower pace. Of the 2.16 lakh connections, power was restored to only about 57,000 connections. “Most of the connections are in remote agency areas, where accessibility is a bit difficult. But now that we have been able to charge the critical Kasimkota sub-stations, connections will be restored in a day or two,” Director (Operations) of APEPDCL, P. Rama Mohan Rao, said.

Giving details of the sub-stations charged so far, he said that of the total 311 sub-stations (33/11 kv) across the three districts, 293 have been charged and of the 1213 feeders (11kv), they were able to rectify and charge 993.

According to Mr. Rao, though power has been restored in many areas, it would take a couple of months to get back to normalcy.
