Pollution Control Board orders company to stop operations

The A.P. Pollution Control Board (APPCB), rejecting the Consent for Operation (CFO) of Biomax Fuels Ltd., Duvvada, served ‘Stop Production’ order on it late on Wednesday night.

‘Orders not complied’

APPCB Chairman G.N. Phani Kumar visited the plant on Wednesday and inspected the measures taken for dousing the fire.

He inspected the site again on Thursday.

He noted that the company was not treating the effluents to the board’s standards and discharging the untreated effluents outside the industry premises through water tankers.

The company did not complying with the directions given on January 20, 2016. Mr. Kumar also noted that there was an increase in the Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter.

The company was engaged in production of bio-diesel using palm oil as raw material. The palm oil was stored in 12 cylindrical tanks, each of 2,700-tonne capacity.

Fire occurred in tank No. 4 and spread to the other 11 storage tanks, which were at a distance of five metres.
