The New Port Police have cracked the murder case of Pyda Rao, businessman and financier, with the arrest of a youth, who is neighbour of the deceased.

It may be recalled that Pyda Rao’s body, with its head battered badly, was found near Pentamamba temple in Pedagantyada on July 27.

The arrested has been identified as B Lakshmana Rao (27), resident of Pedagantyada and native of Parvathipuram of Vizianagaram district.

According to the New Port Police, the accused is a neighbour of the deceased and had an eye on Pyda Rao’s daughter Divya.

While the deceased was a wealthy man, the accused is an unemployed youth.

Many times the accused approached Divya with marriage proposal, but she spurned his offer and even Pyda Rao was against the proposal.

The accused allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate Pyda Rao as he was obstacle for his marriage with Divya.

According to Inspector G. Somasekhar, the accused first befriended the deceased and called him for a drink on July 26, at a secluded spot.

After consuming some quantity of liquor and when Pyda Rao was in an inebriated condition, Lakshmana Rao allegedly battered Pyda Rao’s head with a hammer that he had brought along with him and left the spot immediately.

The police solved the case based on Divya’s naming Lakshmana Rao as the prime suspect.

During questioning the accused confessed to the crime, said Mr. Somasekhar.
