The State government is planning to construct a beach sports complex on the city beaches, Commissioner of GVMC Harinarayanan said at the inaugural function of the first Andhra Pradesh State beach volleyball championships at the RK beach here on Friday evening.

Harinarayanan said he was pleased to see a lot of sports activity on the Visakhapatnam beaches almost all through the year and the activity is much more than in Chennai which has a longer coast line and wide beaches.

Earlier president of AP Volleyball Association and district association P.G.V.R. Naidu (Ganababu) wanted the authorities to provide a beach sports complex which was also the idea of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

APVA wants to develop beach volleyball on par with volleyball, he said.

Dronacharya and Arjuna awards winner and secretary of APCA Ramana Rao, secretary of VDVA Prasada Raju, and chairman of APVA S. Kodandaramiah were among those present.

Visakhapatnam East MLA V. Ramkrishna Babu inaugurated the champion ships.
