The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority will be made part of the building plan approval process by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and the plan approvals given during the last three years will be reviewed, Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu has said.

Hitherto plans on which there was some apprehension was being referred to VUDA. But from now onwards, a VUDA representative will be made part of the technical committee of GVMC that clears plans every fortnight.

The Commissioner told reporters who met him on Friday that plans that come with VUDA approvals would also be subjected to thorough scrutiny.

On the efforts of GVMC to protect open sites, he said of the 895 sites earmarked as open or meant for public purposes, 640 were fenced. In about 90, some development of a school or a place of worship etc., was taken up by local people. Six sites were under occupation and involved in court cases and in all of them, counters were filed by GVMC.

Cancelled

While the permission given to construction of an apartment complex at Sector II of MVP Colony in a space meant for semi-public purpose was cancelled, another plan given in a 400 square yards site in an adjacent site was also cancelled, he revealed. The Commissioner said the approval was given on June 18 after he took over.
