It was literally a dogs’ day out at S.V. Veterinary University Veterinary Hospital near the Court Complex here on Sunday.
Dogs of all breeds and sizes were straining on their leashes trying to friend other dogs and some were chasing away others as the owners queued up to get their names registered for getting free anti-rabies vaccine and also get the pet licence at the hospital.
The vaccination campaign was conducted to mark the World Zoonoses Day.
Some pets quietly submitted themselves to the vaccination and there were others that protested vociferously at the sight of the injection.
“It is normal. Most dogs do not accept the injection easily,” Medical Officer in-charge of the hospital K. Lavanya explained.
Anti-rabies vaccine is a must for the pet’s health and also for the owner.
Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry V. Venkateswarlu injected a Labrador at the camp to mark the inauguration of the camp at the SVVU Veterinary Hospital.
The GVMC also set up a counter at the hospital to issue licence to the pets, for which a vaccination certificate was essential. A number of pet food manufacturers also set up stalls and gave away free samples on the occasion.
The hospital was ready with 2,000 doses of anti-rabies vaccine, Dr. Lavanya said.
