People’s victory, says Haribabu

‘I will do my bit for making Visakhapatnam capital’

May 18, 2014 08:08 pm | Updated 08:08 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Bharatiya Janata Party Andhra Pradesh president and Visakhapatnam constituency MP-elect Kambhampati Haribabu described his victory as people’s victory. Talking to the media before the beginning of an impressive victory rally here on Saturday evening, he attributed BJP’s record win, both in Visakhapatnam and across the nation, to the people’s verdict. “The electorate chose BJP as the party and Narendra Modi as the leader and that was the reason for the windfall victory. The Congress government had performed badly and the voters have sounded their decision,” he said. Mr Haribabu won with an impressive margin of 90, 488 against YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma. BJP party workers from across the district took part in the rally that began at Circuit House and covered four Assembly segments such as Visakhapatnam South, North, East and West.

Over 500 motorbikes and 50 cars participated in the rally. The MP candidate was accompanied by Visakhapatnam North MLA-elect and BJP leader Vishnu Kumar Raju and other senior leaders. Jana Sena leaders and cadre also participated in the rally. At certain points en route TDP leaders and cadre also joined the victory rally. All along the route, the party workers raised slogans praising BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu. Colours of different hues and flower petals were sprinkled along the route, and fire crackers added to the mood of the celebration. On Visakhapatnam as capital city, Mr. Haribabu said the city had got the potential to become the capital and promised to do his bit. But the final decision would depend on the expert committee’s opinion and the party high command decision, he said. Mr. Vishnu Kumar Raju promised to take up the issues plaguing the IT sector in the city and promised to fight to make the port city an IT destination.
