A couple of impressive dance performances with a touch of both classical and western elements, a few theme-based songs, a photo exhibition, an organic food stall and a series of inspiring talks were some of the programmes that marked the inaugural day of the XII National Peas Conference at Etasi Timpany School here on Thursday.

The three-day conference, attended by several environmentalists, experts from different walks of life and a network of schools, kept its focus on spreading environmental awareness by promoting green measures.

Students from various schools have come together to exhibit their project models that help keep the environment clean, beautiful and pollution-free.

Dr. Ken Gnanakan, who flagged off the convention, emphasised the interdependence of man and nature which should work in tandem to save resources and make the world a better place to live in. “Students should come up with green concepts by taking several factors like ozone depletion, global warming and exploitation of resources into consideration. By paying attention to concrete steps such as conserving water, energy and food, we will be able to contribute to global change in conserving nature,” he said.

Educational tour

On Friday, a group of students are set to explore different sites, including Gnanapuram, Sebastian Colony, Mindi, and Chukkavanipalem, as part of the educational tour planned to understand the implications of pollution affecting nature. The event draws its curtains down on Saturday with a green rally.

The conference was graced by school principal Nalini Nelson, executive director David Samuel and its director Annie Cherian along with Executive Director of HPCL V.V.R. Narasimham, CEO of Acts Ministries Santosh Gnanaken and president of Etasi Timpany Schools Parents’ Association Kishore Kumar and its secretary I.M. Ahmed.
