Paddy in 2,600 acres inundated in Vizag

Heavy rains during the past few days led to inundation of paddy crop in 2,600 acres in the district.

The loss in Rambilli mandal was in 2,000 acres. In Nakkapalli and Payakaraopeta, the damage was in 300 acres and 200 acres respectively. Mungapaka suffered damage in 100 acres.

In a press release here on Sunday, the district administration said that Chodavaram mandal recorded the highest rainfall of 112.6 mm in a single day on Sunday, followed by K. Kotapadu (80.6 mm), Butchaiahpeta (77.6 mm), Devarapalle (70.4 mm), Cheedikada (47.6 mm), and Ravikamatam (42.6 mm).

Good inflows

Reservoirs received good inflows.

Against a full reservoir level (FRL) of 380 feet, the level in Tandava stood at 370.3 ft. In Raiwada, it was 114 metres/113.5 m, Konam — 101.25 metres/100.75, Varaha — 460 feet/457.9 ft, Pedderu — 137 metres/135.2 metres, Gambheeram — 126 feet/115 ft, and Meghadrigedda — 61 feet/50.1 feet.

Part of Chodavaram town was inundated owing to the overflowing Narasaraju tank. Water entered 2,200 houses here. A relief camp was opened at the government high school where 500 people were accommodated.

In all, 327 houses were damaged. A causeway between Gavaravaram and Koduru was washed away owing to release of Raiwada water. Similarly, the bridge between Bheempolu and Gummakota of Ananatagiri too was washed away. Pedda Tank in Butchaiahpeta mandal developed a breach.

The R&B Department estimated that 207 km of roads was damaged and the cost of temporary restoration was put at Rs.5.1 crore. Similarly, 10 Panchayt Raj roads needed Rs.34 lakh for restoration.
