Pointing out planning deficiency, low quality work and other defects in VUDA’s row houses at Rushikonda, Chairman of Public Accounts Committee of A.P. Legislature B. Rajendranath Reddy directed VUDA to make improvements and come out with a marketing strategy to sell them.
He enquired from officials on who designed it, who accepted it and who approved it.
There was no connection between concept and design and the architectural firm did a shoddy job, he told officials after visiting the row houses. Though the design was of ultramodern type, there was no relation between the elevation and finishing inside. The walls have already developed cracks.
Even after taking full payment from those who had bought the villas, facilities like solar fencing promised were not provided. There was no bus stop for 5 km or even for getting an auto one has to go that distance.
Mr. Rajendranath Reddy felt that the necessary improvement should be carried to all the houses and a marketing strategy worked out as Rs.25 crore of money was involved. He and committee members took exception to VUDA paying Rs.29 lakh to the architectural consultancy from Chennai. The row houses were completed in 2011-12 and 32 of the 88 houses were auctioned.
Member B. Changalrayudu said that the staircase was steep, there was no bathroom for the master bedroom in the ground floor and no parking space for four-wheelers though the site was beautiful and location excellent.
Member P. Vishnu Kumar Raju said CAG pointed out planning deficiency and without parking space and steep staircase it was a gross irregularity. The panel also directed VUDA officials to take steps for recovering the compensation paid for Waltair Club land and get the case in court resolved.
Mr. Rajendranath Reddy asked Chief City Planner of GVMC D. Venkata Ratnam to submit a report on the approval given for a 34-storeyed building at Sitammadhara.
