Over 1.5 tonnes of ganja seized in two days

Close on the heels of seizure of about 920 kg. of dry ganja and arrest of five persons on Thursday, Prohibition and Excise Department officials on Friday seized 600 kg. of the contraband and arrested five persons at Narsipatnam.

Thus, the quantity of ganja seized in the two days was over 1.5 tonnes and the arrests made were 10.

Based on a tip-off, the Excise team caught a lorry bearing UP registration number at the Narsipatnam check-post. According to Excise Superintendent (Anakapalle division) D.S.R.C. Murthy, the ganja was packed and stuffed in box under the driver’s seat.

The arrested persons were identified as Santosh Kumar, Ramu Yadav and Gopal Yadav, all from Uttar Pradesh, and Arun Kumar Nayak and Anantharam Medha from Odisha.
