‘Online land records posing problems for farmers’

June 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 16, 2016 04:52 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

With the system of uploading land records online causing several problems to farmers, the Rytu Swarajya Vedika, the AP Vyavasaya Vrittidarula Union, the Natwan Sangham and a group of AP Girijan associations are conducting a “public hearing” on the issue of online land records and rights of farmers, at the Public Library here on July 2.

The organisations found that instead of making things easy for the farmers, the online land records method is causing more problems to the farmers, though the government claims it has made the process transparent.

The farmers found that the survey numbers and Sub-Division numbers available in the online records are wrong; the extent of land has changed, the surnames are mis-spelt; pattadars found even their names with full of mistakes; the crop they grown not being recorded; classification of land changed and those having the right over the land totally missing.

Then the farmer has to really struggle to get the mistakes rectified and he is not sure if the corrected record is final, since there is a chance of mistakes cropping up again. “He has to pay the fee in eSeva counter, make several visits to the Revenue offices and the farmer feels that the online record system pushed him from the frying pan into the fire”, said State co-convenor of Rytu Swarajya Vedika P.S. Ajay Kumar.

The online records system, available on the meebhoomi.ap.gov.in website has contravened the AP Records of Rights Act since the online records can be easily altered with the help of a computer, without following the process of serving a notice and conducting an inquiry. The land mafia is exploiting the situation.

Three retired IAS officers who held high positions in the past, EAS Sarma, T. Gopala Rao and Chaya Ratan, along with a High Court advocate Ch. Ravikumar and national secretary of National Alliance of People’s Movements B. Ramakrishnam Raju would verify all the petitions received during the public hearing and submit a report to the CCLA and Secretary to the Revenue Department.

Farmers interested to bring their cases have to contact G. Sreenu on his mobile 9948084000 for registration.
