Polling to the Payakaraopeta by-election was peaceful and the credit should go to the combined effort of the district administration and the Police Department, District Collector and Election Officer Lav Agarwal has said.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday evening, he said preliminary estimates put the polling percentage at 82.
He expressed satisfaction at the polling process ending in a peaceful manner.
The electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be shifted to L. Bullayya College and would be received at the receiving counters there from Tuesday evening.
Counting would be taken up at the college on Friday from 8 a.m. Counting of votes cast in 321 EVMs would be completed in 17 rounds, Mr. Agarwal said.
At each table an agent will be permitted to be present for a candidate.
However, the agents have to obtain their passes from the returning officer before hand.
Cell-phones and other electronic gadgets will not be allowed into the counting hall.
Superintendent of Police G. Srinivasa Rao said the poll was completed without any problem or law and order issues.
Incharge joint collector D.V. Reddy and DRO M.D.H. Sheriff were present.
