Not filing APR may cost VUDA staff dearly

Many officials and employees of the VUDA run the risk of not getting salary for January for not submitting annual property returns (APRs). VUDA Vice-Chairman N. Yuvaraj has warned the staff members that salaries will be withheld for those failing to file APRs by the month-end.

“The provision has been there in the conduct rules for all the Central and the State government employees. Most of the officials and employees have not been complying with it. Hence the decision to stop salaries,” Dr. Yuvaraj said when contacted.

He asked the Secretary and the Chief Accounts Officer on Tuesday to stop salaries for January for officials and employees who have not submitted the returns for 2013. According to the instructions circulated, the officers and staff in the VUDA had to file the APRs for the year 2013 before January 15. All the employees above the level of Class-III, starting from junior assistants to the Vice-Chairman have to file the APRs.

The officers working in VUDA on deputation also have to file the APRs to the parent departments through the VUDA. Dr. Yuvaraj issued a direction on Tuesday to stop salary for January for officers and staff members who have failed to submit APRs.

With a recent ACB raid on a former DFO in a disproportionate assets case , the decision is seen as an effort to redeem the image of VUDA caught in land allotment scandal.
