Waiting for buses at peak hours is something no one wants. The buses do come. But, not when one most needs them- in a tearing hurry running out of time, getting late to office, college etc.
Autos come handy at such times. In spite of RTC personnel and police chasing them away, ‘autowallahs’ manage to get to the bus stops and pick up fares. This has led to a piquant situation with the RTC and Police and auto drivers’ unions on a collision course.
Apart from the conflict, the sudden swerving of autos to take fares bring their vehicles to an abrupt halt ahead of the buses is a regular practice that affects the other road-users as well.
With an auto suddenly coming to a halt those behind it are caught off guard though there is no excuse for not being alert.
However, it is a regular practice for auto drivers blocking the way for the others and sometimes even causing a minor jam.
With him revving up the engine and the passengers taking their time to decide, for those behind it’s a wait they can do without.
But with autos playing a complementary role in the city transport by their sheer number, people may have to put up with their lack of driving discipline on the road.
