No need for alarm over anthrax: KGH chief

There is no cause for alarm as the two men of Godugumamidi village of Chintapalli mandal in the Agency area are suspected to have cutaneous anthrax, can be treated with drugs, Dr. G. Arjuna, Superintendent of King George Hospital, said on Tuesday.

The samples were sent to the Virology Lab for testing and confirmation and it could take a few weeks. The two affected men with suspected anthrax lesions were admitted to the Dermatology Ward of KGH on Monday and are undergoing treatment.

“A vast majority of the anthrax cases admitted to the KGH during the last few years were men.,” Dr. Arjuna said.

The KGH Superintendent said consumption of infected meat, if cooked to the required temperature, will not cause any harm.
