Besides carrying out improvements to the existing parks, GVMC is preparing a plan to develop 37 parks during the current year in partnership with resident welfare associations.
The new development is estimated to add around 20 acres of greenery to the city. On an average each park has an extent of one acre and taking 40 per cent off for pathways etc. the remaining will add to the green cover, say sources.
Another major exercise will be taken up to beautify the catchment area of Mudasarlova from Hanumanthavaka and the Mudarasrlova Park and tank.
The Mudrasarlova Park is a popular destination among locals during the month of picnics “Kartikam.” It was a favourite shooting location for several films. The picturesque reservoir skirting the park adds to its beauty.
Managing Director of AP Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation N. Chandramohan Reddy had made a field visit to the areas where development was proposed last week. He asked Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar to get landscaping design for beautification and carry out a survey and send estimates.
Among the areas where the parks are proposed to be developed are Nehrunagar near GVMC, FACOR Layout, Siripuram, Vijaynagar Palace Layout, Naiduthota, Ajanta Colony, LIC Colony, Sagarnagar, Peda Endada and Peda Rushikonda. Some of the parks have just a compound wall or minimum facilities.
The municipal corporation intends to develop the parks with a cost of Rs.23 crore. While two-thirds of the money for development will be spent by GVMC, one-third has to be borne by the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs).
Facelift for parks
In the 95 parks developed by GVMC between 2003 and 2015 too in collaboration with RWAs, facelift and additional facilities will be provided by GVMC if approached by RWAs. Facilities like greenery, walking track, play equipment etc will be provided if the RWAs make a proposal and deposit one-thirds of the cost.
