Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma reviewed the Eastern Fleet at sea on Monday in which ships, submarine and aircraft of the Command, Fleet, and Local Flotilla took part.
Admiral Nirmal Verma, who had earlier headed the Eastern Naval Command in 2008-09, is on a farewell visit to the Eastern Naval Command here since Sunday. Under his stewardship, the ENC had been involved in numerous operational, anti-piracy, and humanitarian missions in the Bay of Bengal, South East Asia, and the Gulf of Aden.
The ENC continued to grow under his leadership from the integrated headquarters, adding new ships, air stations, and squadrons and extending its reach across the globe, from Vladivostok, Russia in the Pacific Ocean to the Persian Gulf, undertaking Joint Exercises with all major navies of the world, an ENC spokesman said.
Rear Admiral Ajit Kumar P, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, accompanied the Chief of the Naval Staff during the exercises at sea.
The Chief of Naval Staff is scheduled to address the Officers and Men of the Command prior to his departure on Tuesday.
Ms. Madhulika Verma, wife of Admiral Verma, has been in the forefront of the Naval Wives Welfare Association activities, focusing on the under-privileged and special children through the ‘ Balwadi ’ and ‘ Sankalp ’ Schools run by the NWWA and reaching out to the textile weavers of Andhra Pradesh with frequent medical camps and financial assistance given out through ‘ Udyogika’ wing of the NWWA that promotes traditional small scale enterprises.
She visited Ponduru in Srikakulam district once again on Monday and gave away gifts to the weavers. She will also interact with the ladies of the Command at a Milan being organised in her honour by the NWWA of the Eastern Region.
