After trending on social media sites, Narendra Modi has reached the bestsellers racks on book stores which are making the most of the ‘Modi wave’ by stacking up titles on Modi. According to book stores in the city, there has been a great demand for the books and interestingly, even among young readers.
Several new titles on Modi have come in the past two months. “In fact, many of the books speak about his personal life and his workaholic nature rather than his political life, which make it an interesting read,” says Anil Nevatia of Pages book store. The store had reordered about 70 per cent titles on Narendra Modi for nearly six times in the recent past. At present, it has 25 titles on Modi. Reem publishers have come out with two books on Modi in Telugu, which are also seeing good demand.
While the demand for books on political leaders has been high since the start of the poll reason, the sale of books on Modi has gained momentum ever since NDA came back to power following a convincing victory.
According to publishers, more than 10 new titles in different languages, including English, Hindi and Gujarati, on Modi have been released in the last two months and 10 more are slated to hit the market soon.
“The curiosity factor for Modi has always been high. The demand for the books is not just from readers who support his ideology but also from people who are sceptical about him. They want to know more about the man and the way he has come up,” says Ashok Kumar of Ashok Book Centre.
Corroborating the trend observed by other book stores, Kumar adds that books on Modi are moving fast off the shelves. Among the first book that hit the bestseller category was ‘Namo’ by Roli publishers. Among the recent ones to hit the bestsellers rack is the book of Narendra Modi, a political biography, by Andy Marino.
E-commerce firms like Flipkart have a separate segment on Narendra Modi books with over 60 titles in different languages. The online company is offering up to 40 per cent discount on the titles.
