‘Naidu shying away from GVMC elections’

If not, let him tell five village sarpanches to withdraw case in court, says YSRC MLA. Pattiseema lift irrigation project only a gift to his son Lokesh.

April 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 12:14 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is afraid to hold the elections to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation as the people who are disenchanted with him would not vote for the Telugu Desam Party, YSR Congress MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy said.

Mr Chandrababu Naidu is using his own party men to ensure that the GVMC elections are not held in near future. The elections to the GVMC are held up in the courts because of opposition from five villages between Visakhapatnam and Bheemunipatnam. The five villages are under the control of the Telugu Desam party.

If Naidu was serious about GVMC elections he would either direct the five sarpanches to withdraw their case in the court or conduct elections by excluding them. He is aware that he is bound to lose so using his partymen to ensure elections are not held, Chevireddy told party workers at the meeting of the city unit here on Thursday.

‘Gift to Lokesh’

Chandrababu Naidu is pushing forward with the Pattiseema lift irrigation project only as a gift to his son Lokesh.

The kickbacks from the Pattiseema worth Rs. 380 crore are going to be paid to Chandrababu’s son and to pay back the money bags who funded the party for elections, Chevireddy charged.

Pattiseema requires 180 days of floodwater to fill in the water in the reservoir and be available for the lift, however, on an average flood waters are available for only 80 days every year. This means that there is no water for the project and as a result no water for Rayalaseema, the YSRCP MLA said.
