Marking another step forward for Visakhapatnam, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has launched Command and Control Centre as part of the Smart City Project at GVMC here on Saturday.

Participating in a video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi who launched the integrated urban development projects from Pune, he said Visakhapatnam was not only important for the East Coast but also for entire country. The State Government proposes to develop Visakhapatnam as clean commerce capital, he said.

He reminded the Prime Minister of Araku coffee which the latter tasted during his visit for the International Fleet Review.

He lauded the smart city mission as an excellent initiative.

Mr. Naidu told the Prime Minister that the CCC would enable real-time monitoring through Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) of water and power supply, beach surveillance, traffic management, pollution levels, weather and temperature among other things. Recovering from the devastating Hudhud Cyclone, the city had now 100 per cent LED street-lighting replacing 94,000 conventional lights and switching on and off and repairs could be monitored through the monitoring system, the Chief Minister said.

FiberNet

Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said as part of the Digital India campaign, the State Government had launched AP FiberNet to provide internet connectivity to each home implementing the project at a cost of Rs. 370 crore, 7 per cent of the Rs. 5,000 crore if underground cabling was taken up. By August, 15-20 Mbps connectivity would be given to every house.

Earlier, in his presentation, Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar said the CCC, developed by Vizag-based IT company Fluentgrid, using ICT was not a stand-alone but would connect with other departments and would be used to addressing civic grievances in real time. Using AP Fibre grid network, each electric pole would be turned into a smart pole. The centre would enable civic administration to “drill down” to wards and streets to address various civic issues. Video surveillance would be increased from 50 to 1,500 cameras. Ministers Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu and Ganta Srinivasa Rao, MPs K. Haribabu and M. Srinivasa Rao, and Principal Secretary (MA&UD) Karikal Valaven participated.
