A housewife was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Gopalapatnam here on Wednesday. The woman, who was eight months pregnant, reportedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan hook.

Killi Chandu (26) and Vara Prasad Rao were married for six years. Prasad Rao was employed in a private company at the time of the marriage. The couple have a four-year-old daughter. Prasad Rao secured a job in the Railways recently and was allegedly demanding his wife to get additional dowry from her parental home.

When the police went to the house of the victim, they found her lying dead on the bed and Prasad Rao claimed that Chandu had hanged herself and he had tried to save her. The victim’s relatives alleged that Prasad Rao had driven her to suicide by torturing her for additional dowry.

Gopalapatnam Inspector E. Narasimha Rao is investigating the case.
