Municipal workers call off strike

Govt. agrees to keep G0 279, tenders in abeyance

Municipal workers on Wednesday called off their three-day strike as the government kept the GO 279 in abeyance.

Honorary president of GVMC Contract Workers’ Union (CITU) P. Venkata Reddy who participated in the talks with Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, R Karikal Valaven on Wednesday said the government had agreed to keep the GO and tenders in abeyance.

An assurance was also given to pay wages of ₹12000 to unskilled workers, ₹15000 to semi-skilled and ₹17500 to skilled workers, a union press release said.

Permanent employees would be given salaries under Account 010, health cards and brought under GPF, Mr. Venkat Reddy said.

At a meeting of workers from all the zones, union president G Subba Rao thanked the government for its response.

However, the leaders warned that indefinite strike would be launched if the government failed to keep its promise.

CITU City president R K S V Kumar, union general secretary T Nookaraju and others participated in the victory meeting.
