After their party’s founder-president Jayaprakash Narayan launched the party’s election campaign from the city on Saturday evening, the rank and file of Lok Satta Party are exuding confidence that they are certain to make an impact in the coming elections.
During the campaigning, Mr. Narayan, fondly called JP, told the cadres to propagate among the masses that they should not waste their vote by casting it in favour of those for whom politics was a business. “They should not get the impression that a vote for Lok Satta will go waste because the party will not win. If their mindset is changed, we will definitely bag a large number of seats. We have already proved what we could do with just one MLA,” he explained people who gathered from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.
A large number of youth, most of whom were first-time voters attended the meeting. “People want change and only LSP under the leadership of JP can usher in the change,” Arjun, a youngster and die-hard supporter of JP, said.
“He is a politician with a difference. With clarity of understanding and a plan of action over all the contentious issues, he should be given full support,” said Chennai-based film actor Vankayala Satyanarayana, a native of the city.
LSP’s strength in the three districts has increased close to one lakh. “We have committed members. Some have quit government service to take up full-time membership. We are certain that the multi-corner contest will help us win more number of seats,” LSP State secretary Bheesetti Babji told The Hindu .
Mr. Babji, who has been named LSP candidate from Vizag North Assembly segment, said after certain failures of Aam Aadmi Party, most of those who migrated to that party, had returned to the LSP. “I myself quit government service to become a full-time member. Like that there are many who have resigned from service, some even gave up business to do service through the party to ensure real empowerment of the common man,” he said.
