To help bring more students from the poorer sections under the GVMC’s education-support scheme ‘Vidyasri’, the corporation will now give admission to those with 7.5 grading in the SSC.
The decision was taken at the executive body meeting of the Sweekaram Education Society on Tuesday, with Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana presiding.
Until now, the GVMC is extending assistance to students who obtain a grade of 9 in the SSC for Intermediate admission in corporate colleges.
However, the qualifying grade has been lowered to 7.5 to help more poor students gain admission. This is expected to bring another 200 students under the ‘Vidyasri’ assistance.
The meeting decided that students between 7.5 and 8 grades would be helped to continue Intermediate and polytechnic courses and those above 8 grade would be put in corporate colleges.
Even those who get less than 7.5 grade will be helped to get admission in government junior colleges. The scheme will now be extended to high schools at Anakapalle and Bheemunipatnam.Sweekaram
