Federations of self-help groups in slums should play an active role in monitoring sanitation, water supply, street-lighting, health and education.

Addressing federations of Zone V and VI at China Mushidivada and Gajuwaka Indoor Stadium on Friday, Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu said each federation should take up responsibility to 100 to 150 houses. Playing a pro-active role would help solve civic problems quickly, he told them.

On improving drinking water supply, he said the ongoing projects would be completed in the next two, three months. The federations should create awareness on providing tap connections on demand.

Federation will also form the lowest rung in the budget preparation by representing the needs of the households under it.

Besides forming new groups at federation and ward-level, at least two groups in a federation should come under total financial inclusion (TFI), the Commissioner said. Under TFI, all the financial needs of a family are met by opening a bank account and thereby avoiding the need to get money from other sources.

Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said the corporation would encourage if self-help groups come forward to set up Sanjivani generic drug shops.

Additional Commissioner S. Krishna Murthy, UDC Project Director M.N.A. Patrudu, Coordinator Rambabu, Zone Commissioners R.Somannarayana and A. Srinivasa Rao and Umbrella Organisation president Anuradha participated.
