Mission: TEACH

In order to address the issue of illiteracy, Rotary International organisation has kick-started Rotary India Literacy Mission through a project called T-E-A-C-H. The letters stand for: T – Teacher Support, E- E Learning, A – Adult Literacy, C – Child Development, H- Happy Schools.

As part of this TEACH programme, Rotary has planned to establish libraries, especially in Government and Zilla Parishad schools. About 20,000 books worth Rs 30 lakh were received from Rotary Dist. 3230 (Chennai). Schools in Visakhapatnam affected by cyclone Hudhud have been identified to carry out this programme.

In the first phase, a package containing 400 books on various topics will be distributed to each of the 23 schools that have been identified. The programme will be held on Sunday by Rotary Clubs of Visakhapatnam under the supervision of past district Governor Ch. Surya Rao, Atul Rathi, president of Rotary Club of Vizag Hill View, and PLK Murthy, president of Rotary Club Port City.
