Maoists organise meeting in Agency

December 08, 2011 12:59 pm | Updated 12:59 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

For the second time in three days the CPI (Maoist)'s Korukonda area committee organised meetings in its strongholds in the Visakha Agency, as part of the ongoing week-long celebrations of formation of People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).

On Wednesday, a public meeting was held on the border of Koyyuru and G.K. Veedhi mandals where the Maoists repeatedly talked about taking revenge on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Benerjee for killing one of the party's top leaders Mallojula Koteshwar Rao alias Kishenji. Past midnight on Monday a group of Maoists beat up five Girijans at Terapalli village in Chintapalli mandal for allegedly brewing illicit liquor and Korukonda area committee secretary Narendra addressed a public meeting held later. At both places, the Maoists assured the Girijans that they would support their agitation against bauxite mining.

Nearly 25 Maoists were present at Wednesday's meeting. At Terapalli, which is about five kilometres from Annavaram police station, Narendra reportedly told the Girijans that they have the right over forests and hills and urged them to fight to protect their rights.
