Visakhapatnam Bar Association on Tuesday alleged high-handed behaviour by the Nandyal Police in handcuffing an advocate from a hospital on a complaint made by the Revenue Divisional Officer of Kurnool and strongly condemned the incident.
At an extraordinary general body meeting held here on Tuesday Visakhapatnam Bar Association president N.V. Suman said they would boycott all courts on Wednesday for a day and submit a representation to the Commissioner of Police in protest against attitude of the police.
The advocate was arrested in Nandyal after he visited RDO’s office in Kurnool to discuss an issue on behalf of his client. Members of Kurnool Bar Association are boycotting the court for the past week whereas Srikukulam and Guntur Bar Associations boycotted courts on Monday in protest against police action.
Former public prosecutor Bandaru Ramamrishna said certain guidelines must be framed to deal with cases where members of legal professionals talk in their representative capacity before the State government officials.
Senior advocate K. Narasimha Murthy came down heavily on the attitude of the police and sought implementation of judicial order.
Forum of Legal Professionals president Kuppili Muralidhar said handcuffing of person was a clear violation of the law.
