Advocates have been philosopher and guide to society but after Independence they kept to themselves and others occupied the space. Now it is important that advocates rededicate themselves to society. This was stated by Supreme Court Judge Justice S.V. Ramana while inaugurating a three-day workshop for advocates and budding professionals at Andhra University here on Friday.
“The young members must start this (process) and the seniors have to train them to serve society,” he said.
While talking about the role the advocates had in society in the past, with most of the famous freedom fighters being advocates who sacrificed their profession and personal life for the country and society, he said that most of the people’s representatives lacked legal background and system or the Constitution and the laws were badly drafted and there was a lot of confusion and people were suffering.
The Supreme Court Judge warned that there was always a threat to the independence of judiciary and the law students, advocates and intellectuals have to protect judiciary and if not the democratic character of the country would not survive.
Mr. Justice Ramana released a reprint of collection of short stories, ‘Aaaru Saara Kathalu’, written by writer and advocate Raavi Sastry.
High Court Judge and Portfolio Judge of the district G. Chandraiah asserted that advocates have a lot of future. Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University G.S.N. Raju, president of Visakhapatnam Bar Association N.V. Badarinath, Principal District Judge V. Jayasurya, Principal of Dr. Ambedkar AU College of Law D.S.
