Lady doctor jailed

A lady doctor was sentenced to serve a six-month jail term and to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000 each in two cases of cheque bouncing cases, by the III Metropolitan Magistrate Court here on Monday.

The presiding officer of the court Mr. Nagendra Raju found the doctor T. Gitalakshmi, who is practising along with her husband Rajesh in Dwarakanagar, guilty and passed the sentence under the Negotiable Instruments Act. According to advocate of the petitioners S.S. Vasu, Dr. Gitalakshmi has taken a loan of Rs. 7 lakh from G. Suresh of Adarsh Nagar and Rs. 6 lakh from K. Appa Rao, his pension benefits, on November 18, 2014.

She issued cheques separately to the two towards re-payment but the cheques were not honoured due to insufficient funds. The two moved the court seeking justice.
