Splashes of greens filled the canvas while joyful kids nursed the plants and planted saplings. One canvas oozed with the delicious flavour of dollops of colourful ice-creams while another one depicted the sportsman spirit and fervour of success at a sports competition. Diverse emotions - tender and untainted - perceived by little artistes came alive on the white sheets at The Hindu Young World painting competition held here at Swarnabharathi Stadium on Sunday.

This year, the event was sponsored by Lotte Caramilk. Food Ex sponsored delicious snacks to all the participants and Pepsi Co gave Cheetos packets to all participants.

Ravi Shankar Patnaik and Sistla Srinivas of the Department of Fine Arts, Andhra University, were the judges for the competition.

Finally, it was the uniqueness of the concept, composition of subjects and colour combinations that won the hearts of the two judges.

“The quality of paintings was so good that we had a tough time selecting the prize winners,” said Prof. Ravi Shankar Patnaik.

Theme

Congratulating all the participants for their brilliant efforts, the judges said the spirit of participation was more important than winning the contest.

For the seniors the theme was ‘tree plantation ceremony’ or ‘circus’ while for the juniors it was ‘eating an ice-cream’ or ‘sports day’.

The first, second and third prize winners in the seniors category were given cash prizes of Rs.5,000, Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000 respectively.

In the juniors category, the first, second and third prize winners received cash prizes of Rs.3,000, Rs.2,000 and Rs.1,000 respectively.

Apart from this, there were seven consolation prizes in each category and winners got cash prize of Rs. 500. Each prize winner also received a gift hamper from Lotte Caramilk.
