Hitting out at the Congress governments at the Centre and in Andhra Pradesh over price rise, former Congress MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday said he would hold a protest in Visakhapatnam on January 22.
“The decision of petrol price hike came on a day of festival (Sankranti in Andhra Pradesh). The prices of all essential commodities are already high. The middle class and poor people would be the worst affected by the hike in the prices of petrol. We will organise a protest on January 22 in Visakhapatnam to slam the Centre and State government over these issues,” he said.
He appealed to the people to participate in the protest in large numbers.
Mr. Jagan was addressing a gathering at Payakaraopet in Visakhapatnam district where he resumed his ‘odarpu yatra’ today.
Mr. Jagan had kicked off his yatra in Visakhapatnam district on January 3 and took a break from January 9 to undertake a one-day fast in Delhi on January 11 to highlight the implication of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal on the State farmers.
Mr. Jagan will conduct the yatra (tour for consoling the families of those who died following the death of his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy) in Visakhapatnam district till January 22 from today.
His fast in Delhi created a sensation when about 25 MLAs of the ruling Congress joined him. The former MP maintained that he was doing a favour to Congress by asking the MLAs loyal to him not to quit Congress for now.
Mr. Jagan, who is expected to launch his political party soon in his native Kadapa district, has so far covered West Godavari, Khammam, East Godavari, Srikakulam, Prakasam and Nellore districts as part of his yatra.
