About 300 students of Andhra University senior hostel staged a protest in front of the main canteen after they found insects in food that was served for dinner on Tuesday.

The students alleged that despite several representations the university authorities have not taken the food issue seriously. “We find insects in our food on a regular basis, but today it was unbearable as the number of insects were very high,” said a student.

Chief Warden Siva Prasad and ACP (East) A. Narasimha Murthy had to rush to the spot to pacify students.

The students also alleged that the RO water plants in the mess were not working and the toilets were not being cleaned on a regular basis.
