The latest in the IIM (Indian Institute of Management) fold, IIM-Visakhapatnam, will begin its academic operation from this year with the IIM-Bangalore’s flagship two-year programme PGP (post graduate programme) in Management.
As the tradition goes, all new entrants are mentored by an existing IIM facility and in the case of IIM-Visakhapatnam, the Bangalore institute is the mentor institute. Earlier, IIM-Bangalore had also mentored IIM-Tiruchirapalli. The intake for the year 2015-16 is going to be 75 students for the PGP in management programme and the institute will function from the Andhra Bank sponsored College of Management in Andhra University, till the new campus comes up at Gambheeram.
The mentoring is normally done, till the new institute is in a position to take care of itself. And the mentoring is normally restricted to the academic part only. It is learnt that a team of professors from Bangalore will be stationed here, till IIM-V recruits and develops its own team.
As far as the development of the new campus at Gambheeram is concerned it is left to the MHRD and the State Government. But a team from IIM-B is believed to have spelt out its requirement.
