Hudhud wood finds its way to dumping yard

January 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:14 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The wood cut from trees that fell during cyclone Hudhud will finally find its way to the dumping yard at Kapuluppada.

All the efforts to auction the wood had failed since the wood was found to be of inferior quality and there were no takers even if it was free, Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar said on Monday. On the other hand, timber at the Port and Andhra University got a good price, he said. .

The wood stocked at about 90 places would be transported to the dumping yard at Kapuluppada.

After separating the logs and debris, the leaves would be used for composting, Mr. Pravin Kumar said.

Already about 90 per cent had been transported in all zones barring Zone II that had a huge pile, he said.

The wood was auctioned for a total of Rs.20.35 lakh in October itself but was later put on hold for inspection.

Mr. Praveen Kumar said even the successful bidders did not lift the wood when they saw that it was not worth the spending on transportation and forfeited their deposits.

At many places where the wood was stocked fire had broken out.
