Traditional Ajraku and Chuuni (block prints) from Kutch in varied hues and appliqué work from the same region await discerning buyers at Gujarat Handicraft Exhibition-cum-sale, being organised at the Maharashtra Mandal at Asilametta.
Dress materials in bright colours are available for Rs.60 and Rs.80 a metre and dress materials sets are available at prices ranging from Rs.300 to Rs.600.
Bandhini dress materials are available for Rs.500 and Rs.825 and stain finish block print saris offer variety.
“Salwar suits, jackets, skirts, saris, bed sheets and cushion covers made with block prints, handcrafted roof coverings and canopies are still a prominent part of Gujarat. Embroidery works on wall hangings, cushion cover, superfine tie and dye works on cotton and silk saris, dupattas and dress materials are done in Jamnagar and Bhuj Mandi of Kutch district,” according to exhibition manager T.V. Kanthilal.
Handlooms
Handlooms from other States like the famous Sambalpuri saris of Orissa, Bengal cotton saris, palm leaf paintings and handicrafts are also on display.
The superfine Ikkat saris with 100 counts and 120 counts are available for prices ranging from Rs.400 to Rs.2,800.
Wooden articles
Wooden articles like trays, telephone stands, pen stands, silver jewellery, Kutch work tops, cotton, puppets, natural mats, white metal jewellery and jute bags are the other articles on display.
The dress materials, cotton saris, bed sheets and cushion covers were a big draw at the exhibition. The expo, which opened on November 6, will conclude on November 22.
