The meeting between the Education Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the Governor’s presence on Wednesday to sort out the differences in the conduct of Intermediate examinations did not yield the expected results.

Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Telangana Education Minister G. Jagadish Reddy met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Wednesday evening at Raj Bhavan and both of them stuck to their earlier versions.

However, the Governor was said to have suggested to them to form a committee of officials to take the process forward in the interests of lakhs of students.

The Governor was also said to have made suggestions to share the responsibilities to which the two Ministers promised to come back after discussing with their respective Chief Ministers.

However, Mr. Reddy was said to have made his point clear that he should be made Chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) and the BIE would conduct the exams in both the States.

Arguing that according to Section 75 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, he apparently reminded that any institution listed in 10 schedule belongs to the State in whose geographical area it falls, and if the other State requires services from this institution, it can request and take.

Mr. Jagadish Reddy argued that the BIE belonged to Telangana State, and if Andhra Pradesh wanted, the Board of Intermediate Education would definitely extend its services and conduct exams there.

Repeated efforts to reach Mr. Jagadish Reddy to confirm the news did not materialise.
