Gold buyers, beware

April 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

People buying gold ornaments for ‘Akshaya Trutiya’ on Tuesday have been asked to ensure that the gold merchants adopt standard procedures. The Legal Metrology Department has advised consumers to insist on a bill, mention of the carat value in the bill both on purchase of new gold or sale/exchange of old gold.

Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology P. Sudhakar called upon consumers to insist on mention of the weight and rate of stones and gold separately in the bill. They can also insist on the verification certificate issued by the Legal Metrology Department, when they suspect any foul play by the gold merchant. Consumers could also call him on the mobile no. 94901 65675 or District Inspector of Legal Metrology S. S. Ravi Kumar on 94901 65676 and lodge specific complaints.
