GITAM student commits suicide

May 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A final-year ECE student of GITAM University reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in the hostel room on the campus on Tuesday.

The student was identified as Thrimurtulu, a native of Tuni in East Godavari district.

PM Palem Police Station SHO Appalaraju said that no suicide note was found in the room. The student’s laptop and cell phone were confiscated for investigation.

As per sources in the college, Thrimurtulu just completed his final year examinations and did not have any backlogs.

Three students were staying in the room and two had already left after writing the examinations. He had been staying in the room alone for the last two days and was supposed to leave in a day or two.

The reason for the extreme step is yet to be established.

But as per college authorities, he was one among the few students who did not find placement in the campus interviews. Both his roommates were selected.

“This appears to be the only probable reason, as of now,” said Mr. Appalaraju.
