Girijans and Scheduled Castes took out a rally and staged a demonstration at Nathavaram in the district on Thursday to create awareness among people about the importance of vote.
In a programme organised by Praja Chetana and AP Vyvasaya Vruthidarula Union (APVVU), they took out a rally from SC Colony and formed a human chain near Ambedkar statue. They displayed banners asking people not to sell their vote. They also put up cartoons prepared by Melukolupu, an election watch organisation, posing questions on how politicians, after spending huge amounts of money to provide liquor, food, and money to the voters, do not care for them after getting elected and earn back the money by resorting to corrupt practices.
Ultimately, people were the losers. Small amount of money paid to the voters during elections was an investment made by politicians to earn more money, the participants explained. Secretary of Praja Chetana K. Ramalakshmi and APVVU mandal secretary Kondru Suneel spoke. Girijans, SCs, and agriculture labour from Gummidigonda, Samasintha, AP Puram, Nathavaram , Madhavanagram, and Chinna Jaggampeta villages participated.
