With a view to propagating the need to adopt and tap non-conventional energy, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao got a 5 kilo watt solar power system installed at his residence in MVP Colony on Sunday.
The system, which costs Rs. 4 lakh, would take care of half of the 1,400 units he needed per month. This apart, power produced from the 5-kilo watt system would prevent 10 kg of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.
The unit received a subsidy of Rs.1.85 lakh from the Central government (30 per cent) and the State government (20 per cent).
