March 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Nakkapalli police on Sunday arrested R. Siva, a former militia member of the banned CPI (Maoist), on the charge of posing himself as a Sub-Inspector of Police and attempting to extort money from a few people in Nakkapalli, Adda Road, and Payakaraopeta areas in Visakhapatnam district.

According to the police, Siva, a native of Paderu in Visakha Agency area, had joined the Maoist outfit as a militia member and served for a few years. After coming out, he claimed to be a police constable and allegedly collected money from a few people. He later started to pose himself as a Sub-Inspector and telephoned a few people and demanded money.

Acting on a tip-off from some persons of Tuni, Payakaraopeta and a few other areas, the Nakkapalli police laid a trap and arrested him.
