The 150 birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated by various educational institutions, voluntary, private and youth organisations and government departments in the city on Saturday.
At Sri Gayatri Welfare and Cultural Youth Academy, Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivas, District Collector V. Seshadri, former Mayor D.V. Subba Rao, SETVIS Chief Executive Officer A. Subbaraju participated in the programme organised by the academy in association with the District Youth Services Department and Nehru Yuva Kendra at the Visakhapatnam Public Library on Saturday.
They recalled the contribution of Swami Vivekananda towards the awakening of youth and making them realise their power.
NCLP Project Director K.A. Satyanarayana and president of the academy R. Ravi Kumar were present.
At Dr. Bullayya College of Engineering (for Women), Swami Guneshanandaji Maharaj, a renowned monk of the Rama Krishna order, delivered an inspiring lecture on “Man making and character building” in order to achieve victory through the principles of righteousness and dharma.
Principal B. Sambi Reddy, secretary and correspondent G. Madhukumar and Principal of Dr. LB. College I. Parthasaradhi spoke.
At GAC Shipping, Manager E. Srinivas Rao advised youth to inculcate good habits right from childhood to develop into better citizens in future. Andhra Medical College Principal Kalpana Subramanium, Circle Inspector Md. Iliyas and advocate Kuppili Muralidhar spoke.

All India Youth Federation (AIYF) district council leaders and activists paid floral tributes to Swami Vivekananda at his statue at R.K. Beach.
AIYF district general secretary P. Chandrasekhar and city convener V. Satyanarayana spoke. At the Civic Welfare Association, GVMC, Zone-1, Madhurawada, the senior-most citizen of Madhurawada garlanded the photo of Swami Vivekananda and paid rich tributes to him.
Retired Deputy Director of All India Radio S. Panduranga Rao, association secretary M. Jagadeeswara Rao spoke.
At Millennium Software Solutions, CEO G. Sridhar Reddy paid rich tributes to Swami Vivekananda. Faculty members, students and operations manager N. Ramadevi and marketing head R. Srinivasa Rao were present.
At Sri Guru Deva Vikalang Sahayata Kendram, Mangalapalem, Union Minister D. Purandeswari, who participated as chief guest, said that service was an integral part of Indian culture and commended R. Jagadish Babu, chairman of Sri Guru Deva Charitable Trust, for drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda and conducting service activities.
