The Arogya Sri Trust has a lot of data on which research could be conducted by PG students, principal of Andhra Medical College Kalpana Subrahmanyam said at the AMC Research Forum’s best PG research paper presentation programme here on Friday.
A PG student of pathology, O. Sirisha, received Dr. E. Pedaveerraju Gold Medal for the best paper. The competition was for research papers in investigative medicine.
Dr. Pedaveerraju, a retired HoD of Gastroenterology, wanted the PG students to learn by using their intelligence rather than mugging up a lesson.
Researchers were greater than teachers and the AMC Research Forum, of which he is a founder-member, was formed eight years ago to provide an opportunity for the young PGs to express their research ideas, he said.
Dr. Kalpana Subrahmanyam said doctors of investigative medicine were unsung heroes and they did not gain the recognition from the public.
Investigative medicine was witnessing a lot of development and there was a bright future for diagnostics, she said and added that basic medical sciences were also important and more students were showing interest in joining them.
Chairperson of AMC RF T. Radha explained the aim of the forum and its efforts in imparting knowledge to the PGs and faculty.
A professor of physiology, Parvathi, wanted competition in research papers introduced for PGs of basic medical sciences.
Judges of the competition Dr. B.S.V. Sastry, Dr. T.V. Ramani, and Dr. S. Lakshmi said that the presentations were good but the PG students should know how to present their papers and improve their content. Another judge Dr. A. Krishnaveni also spoke. HoD of pathology Lakhmi and others were present.
Cash prize
While Dr. Sirisha received the gold medal, S. Sobha Rani of microbiology and Y. Madhuri Swapna of biochemistry shared a cash prize of Rs. 1,000 and Nitin Mohan of microbiology received a special appreciation certificate.
