Till the other day, the city was dry with hardly any rain. But once it stated raining, it poured! For commuters, the flooded roads are a nightmare.

In several areas, apart from the low-lying Velampeta and Kobbarithota generally known for water-logging, flooding is quite common.

Whether it is Tatichetlapalem, the Railway Station Road, LIC Building Road or near the RTC Complex or near the Police Commissionerate or Beach Road, it is the same story everywhere.

At the Asilmetta road below the flyover, under construction for years now, the flooding is quite heavy.

Nobody is sure about the condition of the submerged road and whether it is safe to drive on a road that is under a sheet of water.

With traffic from several directions converging at the flyover, it is usually a free-for-all situation.

Two-wheeler drivers find it particularly difficult as four-wheelers zipping past splash water onto them.

The stretch of road leading to Municipal Corporation Office is on a steep gradient and no water should stagnate there.

However, it is like a low-lying area during rain. GVMC officials are not sure whether the drainage pockets there have been opened to enable flow of water. If they are open, they have to be properly maintained. Apart from safety, it also damages the roads. Unless maintenance is regular, the rainy season may continue to be a trouble-torn one for road-users.
