Fervour marks Sri Rama Navami

Sri Sitarama Kalyanam was celebrated at all the Rama temples and by organisations at specially erected pandals in the city and all over the district on Saturday to mark the Sri Rama Navami.

For the first time Sri Sitarama Kalyanam was celebrated at the new Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple at Ambika Baugh near Jagadamba junction. The festival at the temple, adopted by the Sri Kanakamahalakshmi temple, is the official function organised by the District Administration and Minister for Endowments Pydikondala Manikyala Rao and his wife presented silk clothes and “Mutyala Talambralu” to the deity on behalf of the State Government. Earlier the couple along with MP K. Haribabu had a darshan of the Lord.

The Minister said that the temple coming up on a 2.7 acre area donated by the Chemudu Samsthanam to the Endowments Department in the heart of the city, would be the biggest Rama temple in the State. Work is going on with an estimated expenditure of Rs. 5.5 crore.

A large number of devotees witnessed the celestial wedding. They received Panakam and Vadapappu prasadam and partook in a lunch. MLA V. Ganesh Kumar, Executive Officer of Sri Kanakamahalakshmi Devasthanam S. Jyothi Madhavi and others were present.

Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju and his wife and Registrar V. Umamaheswara Rao and his wife performed the Kalyanam at Andhra University while Commissioner of Police Amit Garg, DCP Trivikrama Varma participated in the function organised at the City Police Kalyana Mandapam.

Sri Sitarama Kalyanam was performed at the Sitaramaswamy temples in Chengalarao Peta, near old Jail Road junction, near Veterinary Hospital, atop the Simhachalam hill, Waltair road, Venkateswara Metta, Sri Sathya Sai Mandir in MVP Colony, Sri Prasanna Panduranga Swamy temple in Pandurangapuram, Sri Siddhivinayaka Lalita Sundareswara Shakti Peetham in Kirlampudi layout, and other temples in the city and at Anakapalle, Chodavaram, Bheemunipatnam and Narsipatnam and several other places.
